Lean construction is the application of lean thinking to the construction industry: it is about improved delivery of the finished construction project to meet client needs.

Lean construction requires a supply chain where everyone in the chain collaborates in:

Design
Planning
Working
Improving long-term relationships
Commitment to high performance and continuous
    improvement

A fragmented supply chain, with short-term relationships, competitive tendering, poor design processes, ignorance of whole systems and an inability to manage risk, leads inevitably to poor performance in terms of quality, cost and delivery.

You cannot have Lean Construction without a Lean Supply Chain, but just imagine what it’s like when the information, materials, equipment and manpower for a construction project come in on time, complete and to quality requirements.

Lean construction is about gaining control through coordination to improve performance, delivery and value for everyone involved.
